Some civil servants in the Ministry of Health, including medical doctors in key hospitals and health centres, have not been paid their September 2013 salaries, one week after their official payday.

Ministry of Finance spokesperson Nations Msowoya in an interview yesterday attributed the delay to the suspension of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (Ifmis) payment platform which fraudsters used to siphon public funds.

He said civil servants in the Ministry of Health who have not been paid may get their salaries this week.

Msowoya said following the suspension of the Ifmis, government officials responsible for payments have been working manually to prepare the salaries.

The Nation also learnt that some teachers and police officers also received their September 2013 salaries late.

Ministry of Health spokesperson Henry Chimbali said employees in his ministry started receiving salaries on Monday last week, disclosing that some were yet to be paid.

  1. this is playing with somebody’s life probably the lives of our poor people in the villages. I mean the isolated-rural-remote-hard-to-reach communities which only depend on government health services. What if a medical assistant there decides not to work at his centre and go to a certain private clinic for ganyo just for some days to find money for his family. What is happening in Malawi for Gods sake? Do you think people can understand and sympathise with the government now with all these looting at the capital hill? But why does the government take people for granted? we now know that we have lots of money in Malawi and nobody should cheat us anymore that government has no money. we can even demand 100% salary increase because we know that government has money only that we have a weak president with no vision and nobody can fear her because she is useless, stupid and foolish who wants just to enrich herself with our tax money thus why she has totally refused to declare her assert. Wake up Malawi JB has failed us and she deserves no any respect from anyone. this is now rebellion until she is able to control the country as a care taker president. why should somebody go up to 7th of the next month without being paid for what she/he worked for the previous month. or is the government is now bankrupt? then call for early general election. while our brothers and sisters in health sectr are not yet paid till the 7th of october, our so called useless president is enjoying our money in America and has refused to cut short her trip. this is the time our MPs should move a motion to impeach her. how I was soldier Lucius Banda was still in parliament to move a motion of impeachment otherwise ma MP onse alipowa ndi madeya okhaokha mantha too much.
